Guide for Security Guards
This guide explains how to use LiteLog in your daily work as a security guard: set up the app, run patrols, create incident reports and track your shift times.
1. Install the app & sign in
Depending on your site manager's setup, you will either use a company phone at the property or your personal smartphone. The sign-in method (QR code, username + password, or NFC chip) is specified by your site manager.
- Download the app: Install the LiteLog app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android)
- Sign in: Use the sign-in method provided by your site manager
- Check property: Make sure you are signed in to the correct property — on a company phone at the property, this is set automatically
Details: Mobile App, Property selection
2. Scanning NFC & QR codes
In LiteLog, you scan NFC tags and QR codes for patrols, time tracking and checkpoints. Here's how it works on your device:
Scanning NFC tags:
- Android: Simply hold your smartphone to the NFC tag — Android detects tags automatically in the background
- iOS: Swipe right to left to open the NFC scanner, then hold your smartphone to the tag
Scanning QR codes:
- Swipe left to right to open the QR code camera, then scan the code
The app confirms each scan with a green checkmark.
3. Run a patrol
When a patrol is scheduled for your shift, it appears in the app's Calendar.
Start the patrol
- Tap the upcoming patrol in the app
- Press Start patrol
- Go to the first checkpoint and scan (see step 2)
Complete the patrol
When all checkpoints have been scanned, the patrol is automatically marked as Completed. If a point is not accessible, you can still finish the patrol — the missing scan will be documented as a deviation.
Details: Run patrol, Patrol history
4. Create an incident report
If you notice anything unusual (e.g., open door, damage, suspicious person), create a report directly in the app.
Create a report
- Tap New Report in the app
- Enter a description (what happened?)
- Take photos (up to 8 photos possible)
- Optional: Assign the checkpoint where the issue was noticed
- Submit — your operations manager is automatically notified
:::tip Report immediately Create reports directly on site, not at the end of your shift. This ensures the timestamp, GPS position and photos are current and the report is verifiable. :::
Details: Create incident report in the app, Manage incident reports
5. Time tracking: Start & end your shift
Start shift (check-in)
- Arrive at the property
- Open the LiteLog app
- Check in using the method set up by your site manager — depending on the configuration this can be an NFC tag, QR code, kiosk or app button. Your shift starts automatically.
- The app shows that you are checked in
End shift (check-out)
- At the end of your shift, check out using the same or a different method — your site manager defines which methods are allowed for check-out
- End time is automatically recorded
→ Method overview: Check-in and Check-out Methods
You can view your recorded shifts at any time in the app.
:::info Attendance Control If your supervisor has activated Attendance Control, your check-in is automatically evaluated. Check in within the check-in window so that the shift is evaluated as "Successful". :::

FAQ
Does the app work without internet? Yes. Scans, incident reports and time tracking work even without network. All data is stored locally on the smartphone and automatically transferred when the network returns.
What do I do if an NFC tag doesn't respond? Hold the smartphone closer to the tag (distance < 2 cm). Check that NFC is enabled on your device. On iOS: Swipe right to left to open the NFC scanner. If the tag is defective, report it to your site manager.
Do I have to keep the app open during my entire shift? No. After check-in, everything runs in the background. You can close the app and use your smartphone normally.
What happens if I can't scan a checkpoint? Complete the patrol anyway. The missing scan will be documented as a deviation. Inform your site manager about the reason (e.g., area blocked, tag defective).
What happens if I forget to check out? Your operations manager will be notified and can manually correct the time. Remember to check out when leaving the property.
