Customize menu

Since 19 October 2026 the portal menu is no longer fixed: you decide which sections the panels on the left show, which views they contain, and in which order the main items of the left icon bar (rail) appear. The model is the customizable sidebar you know from other tools — with one difference: LiteLog distinguishes two levels, a company default and a personal adjustment per person.

What can be customized?

Sections in every panel. The panel next to the rail consists of sections with a heading. Every main item with a menu panel can be customized this way: Dashboard, Time, the views of the task schedule, Inbox, Orders and Master data. In the dashboard the defaults are the overview (without heading), "Now" and "Proofs"; in the Time panel "Plan" and "Times". You can add sections, rename them, move them up or down, and delete them; the last section of a panel stays. The overview always stays in the dashboard panel but can be moved there.

Example Time. You open the Time main item, click the pencil at the top of the panel and drag "Time tracking" into the "Plan" section right below "Roster". Via + View you also add "Present" to the Time panel, even though the view is also in the dashboard. After Save the Time panel shows the new order; the dashboard stays as it was.

Views from the catalog. Into each section you insert entries from the catalog via + View. The catalog contains every page that is reachable through a menu today: Present, Force overview, Map, every proof view (for example history per property or attendance list), Operations, Roster, Absences, Entries, Work days, Schedule, Reports, Customers, Properties, Employees, Subcontractors, Chat, Customer conversations, Notifications, Export & dispatch and Rules. Every panel offers the whole catalog. Within one panel a view appears at most once, but it may appear in several panels at the same time; "History per property" can also appear directly under "Now" and again in the service-level submenu.

Rename, color, icon. Clicking a view in edit mode opens the dialog: your own name (empty = default name in your language), the color tone of the icon, and an icon from a curated selection, with a preview. "Reset to default" restores the catalog entry.

Main menu (rail). You customize the main items of the bar on the far left — Dashboard, Time, Tasks, Reports, Inbox, Orders, Material, Master data — just like the views: you reorder them, hide them and add them back, and every item can have its own name, icon and color. The color appears as a tinted tile behind the icon, in the same tones as in the panel. The dashboard is always visible; the item you are currently in cannot be hidden while it is open.

Edit the bar directly. As soon as you have clicked the pencil in a panel, the bar on the left is in edit mode too. You drag a main item up or down with the mouse. In this mode a click on an item does not open the page but the dialog for name, icon and color, with a preview and "Reset to default". The eye symbol on an item hides it; it stays faintly visible until you save and can be shown again with the same symbol. The + button below the items offers all hidden items to add. Changes are saved together with the panel via the bar at the bottom of the panel.

The service-level item keeps its fixed submenu with all proof views; the sub-items are visible in the editor but cannot be moved.

Two levels: company default and personal adjustment

Company default. Administrators with the permission Edit settings define the menu for everyone — either in the respective panel with the pencil and the scope "Company default", or under Settings → Organization → Main menu. As long as no company default is saved, the shipped LiteLog menu applies. "Reset to LiteLog default" deletes the company default again.

Personal adjustment. Every person can additionally adjust the menu for themselves — in any panel with the pencil and the scope "For me" or under Profile → Appearance. The personal version is a complete copy: if an administrator later changes the company default, your copy stays, and the portal tells you that the company default has changed. "Reset to company default" deletes the copy; you then see what everyone sees again.

Which version is currently in effect is shown in the editor bar and on the "Main menu" card in the profile: LiteLog default, company default or your own layout.

Rights always win

The layout arranges, labels, colors and hides — it never reveals anything. A view only appears if your role may see the page and the module is included in your plan. If the layout contains a view a person has no permission for, it is simply missing for that person; a section without visible views is not shown. Likewise the rail only shows the main items that permission and plan allow.

The menu layout is pure presentation: it does not change how a proof is created or what customers see. Saving therefore requires neither a change reason nor a change approval. The company default is nevertheless recorded in the configuration history (type "Menu layout").

Via API and AI connection

A connected system or an AI can also set up the company default of the menu without anyone opening the portal. Through the REST API, GET /v1/nav-layout reads the company default (empty = LiteLog default) together with a catalogue of all valid views, icons, colors and limits, plus the LiteLog default as a template; PUT saves a whole layout, DELETE resets to the LiteLog default. The API key needs the permissions "Read main menu" or "Set main menu default", and the account behind it the right to view or edit settings.

The AI connection offers the same steps as tools: read the menu, set it as a whole, rename, recolor or hide a single main item, and reset to the LiteLog default. The AI reports which panels changed and whether the rail changed. Here too, rights come first, no change reason is needed, and every change is recorded in the configuration history. The personal version of individual people stays in the portal.

Where do I find it?

  • Pencil in the panel header (computer only): every menu panel on the left has it — Dashboard, Time, task schedule, Inbox, Orders and Master data. It opens edit mode for exactly this panel with drag handles, "+ View", "+ Section", the "Main menu" button for the rail list, and the bar with scope, the panel name, Cancel and Save. Switching to another main item with unsaved changes prompts a confirmation; afterwards edit mode is closed. In the same mode the bar on the left is editable as well (drag, click for name/icon/color, eye, +).
  • "Main menu" button in the editor bar: the same options as a list — ▲/▼, eye switch, click on the name or icon for the edit dialog, and at the bottom the "Hidden" section with Add per item.
  • Profile → Appearance: status of your personal version, jump to the dashboard editor (the other panels have their own pencil), the rail list for reordering, hiding, adding and renaming directly, and "Reset to company default".
  • Settings → Organization → Main menu (permission Edit settings): company default of the rail, jump to the dashboard editor in company scope, and "Reset to LiteLog default".

On the phone

On small screens no panel has a pencil — dragging sections and views needs space. The rail list under Profile → Appearance also works on the phone; the "Customize in the dashboard" buttons are disabled there with the hint "Edit on a computer".

Notes

  • A section of the default holds at most six views; your own sections may contain more, the editor shows a hint from the seventh entry on.
  • Custom names are single-language (at most 40 characters) and apply exactly as entered; the default name follows the portal language.
  • The layout covers the menu panels and the rail. Panels with their own content instead of a menu stay fixed: the filters of Reports and the task list, the Material panel, the settings and the customer portal. The tools footer (Export & dispatch) and the property filters in the Time panel and the task schedule also stay where they are.
  • If you remove all views of a panel, the panel stays visible on a computer with its title and pencil so you can fill it again. A panel that exactly matches the default is not saved; it therefore follows later changes to the LiteLog default automatically.
